AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to changing party enroll-
ment of voters where the enrolled party contained the word "Independ-
ence" or "Independent"
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The election law is amended by adding a new section 5-312
to read as follows:
§ 5-312. ENROLLMENT; UNENROLLMENT FROM CERTAIN PARTIES. ANY PERSON
ENROLLED IN A PARTY WHICH INCLUDES THE WORDS "INDEPENDENCE" OR "INDE-
PENDENT" SHALL HAVE THEIR VOTER ENROLLMENT CHANGED SUCH THAT THEY ARE
NOT ENROLLED IN ANY PARTY.
§ 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
