What it does

This bill would require the Commissioner of Transportation, in coordination with the New York City Economic Development Commission, to study and report on the feasibility of siting additional ferry terminals along the Rockaway Peninsula. Through the study, the Commissioner have to identify existing ferry terminals and potential locations for additional ferry terminals along the Rockaway Peninsula, with an emphasis on locations east of Beach 86th Street. The Commissioner would also have to identify local benefits of this additional siting, logistical challenges associated with this additional siting, and any solutions to these challenges. Lastly, the Commissioner would be required to estimate the costs associated with this siting. No later than 1 year after the effective date of this bill, the Commissioner would have to submit a report containing the findings of the study to the Speaker of the Council and the Mayor and post the report on the Department of Transportation’s website.
