2025 - 2026 LEGISLATURE LRB-2593/1 FFK:cdc 2025 ASSEMBLY BILL 918 January 28, 2026 - Introduced by Representatives Summerfield, Brill, Dittrich, Hurd, Kaufert, Murphy, Nedweski, O'Connor, Piwowarczyk and Wichgers, cosponsored by Senator Jacque. Referred to Committee on Children and Families. An Act to amend 118.019 (2m) (e) of the statutes; relating to: required subjects in a human growth and development instructional program. Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau This bill requires a school board that provides a human growth and development instructional program to include instruction on adoption in the instructional program. Current law allows, but does not require, a school board to provide a human growth and development instructional program in grades kindergarten to 12. If a school board elects to offer the instructional program, current law recommends, but does not require, that the school board include certain topics, one of which is “adoption resources, prenatal care, and postnatal supports” in the instructional program. Under current law, if any part of the recommended instructional program is provided to pupils, the school board must provide specific information on required subjects in the same course in the same year. The bill adds to the list of required subjects providing instruction on adoption. For further information see the local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill. The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows: Section 1. 118.019 (2m) (e) of the statutes is amended to read: 118.019 (2m) (e) Provides instruction in adoption, parental responsibility, and the socioeconomic benefits of marriage for adults and their children.
