Protecting Americans’ Privacy Act of 2025

The bill makes it illegal for certain people to access the Treasury Department's central payment systems, including those at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service. This applies to people who are not federal employees or long-term contractors, federal employees who also hold executive or board roles at outside companies, newer federal employees, and political appointees with conflicts of interest or no signed ethics agreement. Anyone harmed by a violation can sue for at least $250,000, and the bill blocks these individuals from viewing taxpayers' return information through the payment systems.
