Congressional Award Program Reauthorization Act

This section would give the Act a short title: the Congressional Award Program Reauthorization Act.

This section would change the termination date in section 108 of the Congressional Award Act (2 U.S.C. 808) from October 1, 2023 to October 1, 2028, so the Congressional Award Program would keep running through that later date instead of ending in 2023. The change would apply retroactively, taking effect as if it had been enacted on October 1, 2023, so the program would be treated as never having lapsed.

This section would make two changes to section 102 of the Congressional Award Act (2 U.S.C. 802). First, it would remove the sentence in subsection (a) that required each medal to consist of gold-plate over bronze, rhodium over bronze, or bronze and to be struck in accordance with subsection (f); that materials-and-manufacturing requirement would no longer be part of the law. Second, in the second sentence of subsection (f)(1), it would remove the opening words Subject to subsection (a), so that sentence would apply on its own terms and would no longer be limited by subsection (a).
