Closing the Meal Gap Act of 2025

The bill would replace the thrifty food plan with a new low-cost food plan, based on the cost of feeding a reference four-person family, as the basis for calculating SNAP benefit amounts, and would require the plan to be reevaluated at least every five years. It would add a standard medical expense deduction as an alternative to deducting actual costs for elderly or disabled household members, remove the cap on the shelter expense deduction, and eliminate an existing time limit that applies to some SNAP recipients.
