Enduring Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act in plain language
1.: Short title
This section gives the Act its short title: the Enduring Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act.
2.: Additional special assessments
This section would amend section 3014(a) of title 18, United States Code, which sets a $5,000 special assessment that a court must impose, in addition to the standard assessment under section 3013, on any non-indigent person or entity convicted of certain offenses. Under current law, that $5,000 assessment only applies to convictions falling between the date the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015 became law and September 30, 2025. This section would remove that start-and-end date window from the text. As a result, courts would keep assessing the $5,000 amount on any non-indigent person or entity convicted of the offenses covered by section 3014(a), on an ongoing basis, rather than having that assessment stop applying to convictions after September 30, 2025.
