What it does

The bill extends the Army's leave rules under title 10 of federal law to commissioned officers of the Public Health Service and their beneficiaries, giving them the same leave rights as Army officers. It also repeals a separate leave-related provision in the Public Health Service Act, so that provision no longer applies.

1. Short title This Act may be cited as the Uniformed Services Leave Parity Act .

2Application of leave provisions for members of the Armed Forces to members of the Public Health Service

This section would add Chapter 40 of title 10, United States Code, which covers leave for commissioned officers of the Army, to the list of title 10 rights and privileges in section 221(a) of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 213a(a)) that already apply to commissioned officers of the Public Health Service. As a result, commissioned officers of the Public Health Service, and their beneficiaries, would get the same leave rights and privileges under Chapter 40 that commissioned officers of the Army, and their beneficiaries, currently get. This section would also repeal section 219 of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 210-1). The bill text provided does not include the wording of section 219, so this rendering cannot describe what rule section 219 contains or exactly what would be removed by repealing it.
