2Container aerial firefighting system (CAFFS)
This section would require the Secretary of Agriculture and the Secretary of the Interior, working together and in consultation with the National Interagency Aviation Committee and the Interagency Airtanker Board, to conduct an evaluation of the container aerial firefighting system (CAFFS) within 90 days after the Act becomes law. The evaluation would assess how well the system works to reduce and put out wildfires. Within 120 days after the Act becomes law, the two Secretaries, again in consultation with the same two boards, would have to jointly submit a report containing the results of that evaluation to the appropriate committees. The section defines the appropriate committees as the House Committees on Agriculture and on Natural Resources, and the Senate Committees on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and on Energy and Natural Resources.
