Community Mental Wellness Worker Training Act

The bill lets the Department of Health and Human Services award grants to community health clinics, health centers, and similar nonprofit organizations to train community mental wellness workers. These workers would screen people for mild to moderate conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and alcohol use disorder, and provide counseling, including suicide risk reduction. Priority goes to organizations in areas with above-average poverty and unemployment, in medically underserved communities, in areas with above-average substance use rates, or serving many people eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
