2: Inspections

This section would add a new paragraph to section 6(f) of the United States Housing Act of 1937 covering large public housing developments. The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development would have to inspect each public housing project that has 100 or more dwelling units at least once every two years, to determine whether the project and its individual units are being maintained in accordance with the existing maintenance requirements in that law. These biennial inspections would be required in addition to the inspections already required under existing law, not in place of them. The inspections would have to be carried out by employees of the Department of Housing and Urban Development or by other inspectors the Secretary obtains, but could not be carried out by any officer or employee of a public housing agency or by any agent of a public housing agency. The Secretary would also have to make the results of these inspections publicly available online.
