S3347 2026 -- S 3347 ======== LC006523 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 14 TO SEPTEMBER 18, 2026, TO BE NATIONAL ADULT EDUCATION AND FAMILY LITERACY WEEK IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND Introduced By: Senator Lori Urso Date Introduced: June 04, 2026 Referred To: Placed on the Senate Consent Calendar 1 WHEREAS, More than 43 million Americans cannot read or write at the most basic 2 level, and 62.7 million people lack basic math skills and the credentials necessary to succeed in 3 post-secondary education; and 4 WHEREAS, One in three young adults in the United States does not complete High 5 School; and 6 WHEREAS, There is a critical shortage of skilled workers across the private sector, with 7 an estimated 7.5 million positions being unfilled; and 8 WHEREAS, Adult Education programs play a transformative role in helping Americans 9 achieve basic skills, gain credentials, and prepare for career and college opportunities; and 10 WHEREAS, Adult Education programs-offered through high schools, adult schools, 11 community colleges, and community centers-provide accessible, high-value instruction that 12 equips citizens with the skills needed to thrive personally and professionally; now, therefore be it 13 RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby values and supports 14 lifelong learning as a cornerstone of individual opportunity, economic growth, and community 15 strength; and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby recognizes the enduring importance of adult 17 education in transforming lives and empowering our citizens to achieve their full potential; and be 18 it further 19 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be hereby is authorized and directed to transmit 1 a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Rhode Island Department of 2 Education. ======== LC006523 ======== LC006523 - Page 2 of 2
