S3210 2026 -- S 3210 ======== LC006173 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N PROCLAIMING APRIL 2026, AS SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND Introduced By: Senators McKenney, Gallo, Vargas, Patalano, Tikoian, Appollonio, Rogers, Famiglietti, Lauria, and Valverde Date Introduced: April 14, 2026 Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration 1 WHEREAS, School librarians grow an individual’s literacy and communication skills to 2 create a stronger foundation for academic and personal success; and 3 WHEREAS, School libraries provide students access to books, especially books that 4 reflect their own lives and experiences, and open their world to history and people who are 5 different from themselves; and 6 WHEREAS, School librarians nurture an individual’s ability to think critically, organize 7 information, and connect their learning to the real world; and 8 WHEREAS, School librarians encourage learners to not only consume information 9 safely, but also to create content that contributes to solutions, interests, and the education of 10 others; and 11 WHEREAS, School librarians encourage learners to engage as digital citizens, who 12 participate ethically, appropriately, and critically in our digitally-mediated world; and 13 WHEREAS, School librarians play a critical role in the teaching and learning processes 14 that are relevant, accessible, and varied to meet the diverse needs and abilities of learners; and 15 WHEREAS, The full potential of school libraries is dependent upon well-trained, 16 professional school librarians whose varied skills assist other educators, learners, and families to 17 effectively evaluate and use a variety of information resources in diverse formats; now, therefore 18 be it 19 RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby proclaims April 2026, 1 as School Library Month in the State of Rhode Island and urges all citizens in recognizing 2 school libraries for the critical services they provide to our learners, and for the positive impact 3 they have on student achievement; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 5 transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the School Librarians of Rhode Island (SLRI) 6 and the Rhode Island Library Association (RILA). ======== LC006173 ======== LC006173 - Page 2 of 2
