S2527 2026 -- S 2527 ======== LC003297 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ A N A C T RELATING TO EDUCATION -- CURRICULUM Introduced By: Senator E Morgan Date Introduced: February 13, 2026 Referred To: Senate Education It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 16-22 of the General Laws entitled Curriculum [See Title 16 2 Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of Education Act] is hereby amended by adding thereto the 3 following section: 4 16-22-34.1. Instruction in sexual education. 5 Any school providing instruction in sexual education to students, prior to providing such 6 instruction to students, shall provide the sexual education curriculum to every parent or legal 7 guardian that has a child in that school, in a form comprehensible to the parent or legal guardian. 8 Every parent or legal guardian shall consent, in writing, to the instruction of such sexual education 9 curriculum provided to that parent or legal guardian for any child in which they are exercising 10 custodial rights. 11 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. ======== LC003297 ======== EXPLANATION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF A N A C T RELATING TO EDUCATION -- CURRICULUM *** 1 This act would provide that any school teaching sexual education to students shall provide 2 the sexual education curriculum to every parent or legal guardian with a child in that school, and 3 the parent or legal guardian shall consent, in writing, to the teaching of such sexual education 4 curriculum to their child. 5 This act would take effect upon passage. ======== LC003297 ======== LC003297 - Page 2 of 2
