S2292 2026 -- S 2292 ======== LC004203 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ A N A C T RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES -- DISARMING A PEACE OFFICER Introduced By: Senators DiPalma, LaMountain, Burke, Tikoian, McKenney, Paolino, Raptakis, and Euer Date Introduced: January 23, 2026 Referred To: Senate Judiciary It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Title 11 of the General Laws entitled CRIMINAL OFFENSES is hereby 2 amended by adding thereto the following chapter: 3 CHAPTER 71 4 DISARMING A PEACE OFFICER 5 11-71-1. Disarming a peace officer. 6 Any person who shall knowingly remove or attempt to remove a firearm, deadly weapon, 7 or less-lethal weapon to include, but not limited to, any blunt impact, chemical or conducted energy 8 device; or knowingly deprive or attempt to deprive the use of a mobile communication device or 9 radio used in the performance of official duty, from the person of a peace officer as defined in § 10 12-7-21, or investigator of the department of attorney general appointed pursuant to § 42-9-8.1, 11 shall be deemed to have committed a felony, and shall be imprisoned not less than one year nor 12 more than five (5) years. 13 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. ======== LC004203 ======== EXPLANATION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF A N A C T RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES -- DISARMING A PEACE OFFICER *** 1 This act would make it a felony for any person to remove or attempt to remove any firearm 2 or other weapon or any communication device from any peace officer or investigator of the 3 department of attorney general. 4 This act would take effect upon passage. ======== LC004203 ======== LC004203 - Page 2 of 2
