H8573 2026 -- H 8573 ======== LC006493 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE EDWARD L. MAGGIACOMO Introduced By: Representatives Blazejewski, Kazarian, Lima, Chippendale, Paplauskas, Potter, Baginski, J. Brien, McNamara, and Kennedy Date Introduced: May 21, 2026 Referred To: House read and passed 1 WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House of Representatives has learned of the 2 passing of the Honorable Edward L. Maggiacomo. Mr. Maggiacomo was born in Providence in 3 1936, a son of Guiseppe and Guilia Maggiacomo. He was the youngest of seven children and was 4 raised in Cranston; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Maggiacomo graduated from Providence College and served our nation 6 with honor and distinction as a Lieutenant in the United States Army. In 1960, while serving in 7 the Army in Germany during the Cold War, he was invited to Christmas Eve services and a 8 family dinner where he met the love of his life, Inge. They fell in love, were married for 64 years, 9 and raised four children together; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Maggiacomo later graduated from Georgetown University Law Center, 11 and was a founding member of one of Rhode Island’s largest and most prestigious law firms, 12 Adler Pollock & Sheehan P.C. Mr. Maggiacomo was widely respected as a practicing attorney for 13 his acumen, abiding integrity and tireless work ethic as well as for his willingness to serve as a 14 mentor to younger attorneys; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Maggiacomo was also a dedicated public servant who represented the 16 citizens of Knightsville, Cranston, from 1967 to 1980, in the House of Representatives, rising to 17 the position of Majority Leader. Mr. Maggiacomo then proceeded to serve for sixteen years as 18 Rhode Island s Democratic National Committeeman, where he attended numerous Democratic 19 National Conventions and cast Electoral College votes in several Presidential Elections; and 1 WHEREAS, Other highlights of Mr. Maggiacomo s sterling legal and public service 2 careers included attending a Rose Garden ceremony at the White House honoring Pope John Paul 3 II, and a State Dinner honoring the Prime Minister of Italy; and 4 WHEREAS, Mr. Maggiacomo also served with distinction as a trustee of the Rhode 5 Island Foundation. He was very proud of his record at the Rhode Island Foundation of assisting 6 Rhode Islanders in need. He also was a loyal Providence College Alumnus who served for thirty 7 years on the President’s Counsel and faithfully donated to Providence College for 65 consecutive 8 years; and 9 WHEREAS, In addition to his wife Inge, Mr. Maggiacomo leaves behind his daughter 10 Susanne and her husband, Steven Tallarida, his son Edward Maggiacomo Jr., and his wife, 11 Kristin, and his son Stephen Maggiacomo and his wife, Maryellen. Mr. Maggiacomo was 12 predeceased by his son Michael. Mr. Maggiacomo also leaves behind his grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, including Haylee and her husband, Deepak Diwan, and their children, 14 Shepard, Sienna and Gemma, as well as Chloe and Sophie Tallarida, by Michael, Mia, Mollie, 15 Matthew Maggiacomo and Tom Maggiacomo, Grace Finney, and her husband, John, and John, 16 Marc and David Maggiacomo and also his sister Elaine Ruggieri. Mr. Maggiacomo was 17 predeceased by his brothers, Biagio and Joseph, and his sisters, Assunta Iaciofano, Mary 18 Grimaldi, and Gloria Zito; now, therefore be it 19 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 20 expresses its deepest condolences to the Maggiacomo Family on the passing of the Honorable 21 Edward L. Maggiacomo; and be it further 22 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 23 transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Susanne Tallarida, Edward Maggiacomo, Jr., 24 Stephen Maggiacomo and Inge Maggiacomo. ======== LC006493 ======== LC006493 - Page 2 of 2
