H8287 2026 -- H 8287 ======== LC003525 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N PROCLAIMING MARCH OF 2026, TO BE MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND Introduced By: Representatives Noret, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Chippendale, Kennedy, Tanzi, Ajello, Fogarty, Solomon, and Shallcross Smith Date Introduced: March 12, 2026 Referred To: House read and passed 1 WHEREAS, The National Association for Music Education has designated March as 2 Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM); and 3 WHEREAS, Throughout history, music has been present and played an important role in 4 human culture; and 5 WHEREAS, Since its inception 41 years ago, Music in Our Schools Month has been an 6 annual month-long event, celebrated by thousands of children in our schools and in our 7 communities; and 8 WHEREAS, Music is a natural phenomenon which captures every human emotion by 9 producing a series of pitches, sounds and rhythms, creating a response of joy, sorrow, excitement, 10 or pride; and 11 WHEREAS, Music is naturally therapeutic for the mind and body. Research has 12 documented that participation in school music programs promotes student engagement, leading to 13 improved social and academic outcomes, particularly for at-risk students; and 14 WHEREAS, Music education engages children in developing proficiencies in creativity, 15 self-expression, problem solving, and evaluative and mathematical skills; and 16 WHEREAS, Music education shapes the way students understand themselves and the 17 world around them and is an essential part of every student s well-rounded education; now, 18 therefore be it 19 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 1 proclaims March of 2026 to be Music in our Schools Month and moreover, fully supports the 2 teaching and learning of music in public schools and recognizes the hard work of music educators 3 across our State; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 5 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island Music Education Association. ======== LC003525 ======== LC003525 - Page 2 of 2
