H8038 2026 -- H 8038 ======== LC005395 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ A N A C T RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- ORDINANCES Introduced By: Representatives Furtado, Dawson, and Boylan Date Introduced: February 27, 2026 Referred To: House Municipal Government & Housing It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 45-6 of the General Laws entitled Ordinances is hereby amended 2 by adding thereto the following section: 3 45-6-13. Hotel, motel, inn, boardinghouse, or catering establishment – Application; 4 approval. 5 The city of East Providence, is hereby authorized and empowered to provide, by ordinance, 6 for the discretionary issuance and revocation of licenses to any person or business entity seeking to 7 engage in the business of operating a hotel, motel, inn, boardinghouse, or catering establishment, 8 to establish reasonable fees for the issuance and revocation, and to promulgate, by ordinance, 9 reasonable rules and regulations as to the duration, location, number, and operation of those licenses 10 within the city. Prior to issuance of a license by the city clerk, pursuant to this section, any person 11 or business entity seeking to engage in the business of operating a hotel, motel, inn, boardinghouse, 12 or catering establishment shall first obtain approval of the chief of police, the building inspector 13 and the mayor. 14 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. ======== LC005395 ======== EXPLANATION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF A N A C T RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- ORDINANCES *** 1 This act would authorize the city of East Providence to issue licenses to any person or 2 business entity seeking to engage in the business of operating a hotel, motel, inn, boardinghouse, 3 or catering establishment.
