H7649 2026 -- H 7649 ======== LC005007 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ A N A C T RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES -- UNIFORM ACT ON PREVENTION OF AND REMEDIES FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING Introduced By: Representatives Dawson, McEntee, and Boylan Date Introduced: February 11, 2026 Referred To: House Judiciary It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Section 11-67.1-20 of the General Laws in Chapter 11-67.1 entitled Uniform 2 Act on Prevention of and Remedies for Human Trafficking is hereby amended to read as follows: 3 11-67.1-20. Display of public-awareness sign — Penalty for failure to display. 4 (a) Any public or quasi-public transportation agency shall display a public-awareness sign 5 that contains the state and national human trafficking resource center hotline information in every 6 transportation station, rest area, and welcome center in the state that is open to the public. 7 (b) An employer shall display the public-awareness sign described in subsection (a) of this 8 section in a place that is clearly conspicuous and visible to employees and the public at each of the 9 following locations in this state at which the employer has employees: 10 (1) A strip club or other sexually-oriented business; 11 (2) A business entity previously found to be a nuisance for prostitution; 12 (3) A job-recruitment center; 13 (4) A hospital; or 14 (5) An emergency-care provider. 15 (c) The department of labor and training shall impose a fine of three hundred dollars ($300) 16 per violation on an employer that knowingly fails to comply with subsection (b) of this section. 17 The fine shall be the exclusive remedy for failure to comply. 18 (d) All monies assessed pursuant to this section shall be deposited into the violent crimes 1 indemnity account within the general fund, as established pursuant to § 12-25-28, for the purpose 2 of paying awards granted pursuant to the criminal injuries compensation act established pursuant 3 to the provisions of chapter 25 of title 12. 4 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. ======== LC005007 ======== LC005007 - Page 2 of 3 EXPLANATION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF A N A C T RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES -- UNIFORM ACT ON PREVENTION OF AND REMEDIES FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING *** 1 This act would require that all monies received from the payment of fines under the 2 Uniform Act on Prevention of and Remedies for Human Trafficking be deposited into the violent 3 crimes indemnity account within the general fund. 4 This act would take effect upon passage. ======== LC005007 ======== LC005007 - Page 3 of 3
