H7406 2026 -- H 7406 ======== LC003117 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N COMMEMORATING JULY OF 2025 AS FRAGILE X AWARENESS MONTH IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND Introduced By: Representatives Noret, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Chippendale, Serpa, McEntee, Finkelman, Kennedy, Tanzi, and Shallcross Smith Date Introduced: January 29, 2026 Referred To: House read and passed 1 WHEREAS, In July of 2000, the United States Congress designated July 22 as National 2 Fragile X Awareness Day; and 3 WHEREAS, Fragile X Syndrome is a genetic disorder that can cause intellectual 4 disability, behavioral challenges and physical abnormalities, and is the most common cause of 5 inherited intellectual disability and the most commonly known genetic cause of autism or autism 6 spectrum disorders; and 7 WHEREAS, Over 1.5 million Americans are carriers of an FXS mutation and over 8 100,000 Americans have Fragile X syndrome; and 9 WHEREAS, The genetic defect causing Fragile X has been discovered and is easily 10 identified by DNA testing; however, even within the medical community, it frequently goes 11 undetected due to its rare nature and the lack of awareness about the syndrome; and 12 WHEREAS, Fragile X is the best key to solving autism, and treatments for Fragile X are 13 likely to help people who have Alzheimer’s or other brain disorders; and 14 WHEREAS, Fragile X Syndrome Month is a time to celebrate families and individuals 15 impacted by Fragile X and to raise awareness and highlight the advances in research that will find 16 effective treatments and ultimately a cure; now, therefore be it 17 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 18 commemorates July of 2025 as “Fragile X Awareness Month” in the State of Rhode Island and 19 urges all Rhode Islanders to become aware, share information, and advocate for advancements in 1 research and treatment for individuals, and support for the families, affected by Fragile X 2 Syndrome; and be it further 3 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 4 transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the National Fragile X Foundation (NFXF), and 5 Little Rhody Warriors. ======== LC003117 ======== LC003117 - Page 2 of 2
