H7209 2026 -- H 7209 ======== LC003932 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ A N A C T RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- MOTOR VEHICLE OFFENSES Introduced By: Representatives Perez, Corvese, Messier, Chippendale, Quattrocchi, Santucci, Shallcross Smith, Fellela, Azzinaro, and Fascia Date Introduced: January 21, 2026 Referred To: House Judiciary It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 31-27 of the General Laws entitled Motor Vehicle Offenses is 2 hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 3 31-27-26. Prompt violation payment. 4 Any motorist who receives a moving violation, which may be paid without a court 5 appearance, and who pays the fine in full within thirty (30) days of its issuance, shall not have the 6 violation recorded on the motorist s division of motor vehicle s driving record; provided, however, 7 that this procedure may not be utilized more than twice a year. 8 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. ======== LC003932 ======== EXPLANATION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF A N A C T RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- MOTOR VEHICLE OFFENSES *** 1 This act would prohibit the division of motor vehicles from recording a moving violation 2 on a motorist s driving record, if the moving violation is one that can be paid by mail and is paid, 3 in full, by the motorist within thirty (30) days of its issuance; provided that, this procedure cannot 4 be utilized more than twice in one year. 5 This act would take effect upon passage. ======== LC003932 ======== LC003932 - Page 2 of 2
