H7175 2026 -- H 7175 ======== LC003576 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ A N A C T RELATING TO PUBLIC UTILITIES AND CARRIERS -- PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION-NATURAL GAS SUPPLIERS Introduced By: Representatives Chippendale, J. Brien, Nardone, Newberry, Place, Santucci, Paplauskas, Quattrocchi, Hopkins, and Fascia Date Introduced: January 21, 2026 Referred To: House Corporations It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 39-1 of the General Laws entitled Public Utilities Commission is 2 hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 3 39-1-2.2. Long-term contracts for natural gas. 4 The public utility known as “Rhode Island Energy” shall enter into at least one long-term 5 contract, for not less than four (4) years, for the procurement of natural gas pipeline capacity with 6 an interstate pipeline operator. 7 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. ======== LC003576 ======== EXPLANATION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF A N A C T RELATING TO PUBLIC UTILITIES AND CARRIERS -- PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION-NATURAL GAS SUPPLIERS *** 1 This act would require Rhode Island Energy to enter into at least one long-term contract, 2 for at least a four (4) year period, to procure natural gas pipeline capacity with an interstate pipeline 3 operator. 4 This act would take effect upon passage. ======== LC003576 ======== LC003576 - Page 2 of 2
