H7125 2026 -- H 7125 ======== LC004124 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ A N A C T RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- LOW AND MODERATE INCOME HOUSING Introduced By: Representative John G. Edwards Date Introduced: January 15, 2026 Referred To: House Municipal Government & Housing It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 45-53 of the General Laws entitled Low and Moderate Income 2 Housing is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 3 45-53-17. Tiverton affordable housing units. 4 In the town of Tiverton, at any time that there exists less than ten percent (10%) affordable 5 housing in accordance with the provisions of § 45-53-3.1, the minimum number of affordable 6 housing units to be built by any developer in the town pursuant to any approved plan, permit or 7 project shall comprise of at least fifty percent (50%), of the units or dwellings constituting or 8 consisting of affordable housing units until there exists full compliance with affordable housing 9 requirements of chapter 53 of title 45. 10 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. ======== LC004124 ======== EXPLANATION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF A N A C T RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- LOW AND MODERATE INCOME HOUSING *** 1 This act would authorized the town of Tiverton to require that fifty percent (50%) of new 2 construction be affordable housing units if there is less than ten percent (10%) of affordable housing 3 in the town. 4 This act would take effect upon passage. ======== LC004124 ======== LC004124 - Page 2 of 2
