6 An Act relating to the Oklahoma Firefighters Pension
6 and Retirement System; providing for benefits
7 increase subject to certain exception; defining term;
7 and providing for codification.

10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

11 SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified
11
12 in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 49-143.8 of Title 11, unless
12
13 there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:
13
14 A. Except as provided in subsection B of this section, and
14
15 persons receiving benefits pursuant to Section 49-101 of Title 11 of
15
16 the Oklahoma Statutes, any member of the Oklahoma Firefighters
16
17 Pension and Retirement System receiving benefits from the System as
17
18 of June 30, 2025, who continues to receive benefits on or after the
18
19 effective date of this act shall receive a five percent (5%)
19
20 increase in benefits.

21 B. 1. For any member of the System who joined prior to January
21
22 1, 1981, who shall have his or her pension or the pension of his or
22
23 her surviving spouse increased or decreased by one-half (1/2) of all
23
24 increases or decreases which shall occur in the salary of a regular

1 firefighter in the municipality from which the member is receiving a
1
2 pension, any increase in benefits shall be used to offset the
2
3 increase provided in subsection A of this section.

4 2. For the purposes of this section, "regular firefighter"
4
5 means a salaried firefighter who has reached his or her maximum
5
6 salary as a private in his or her department and has not been
6
7 promoted to a position of rank.

8 C. Effective July 1, 2026, any persons receiving benefits
8
9 pursuant to Section 49-101 of Title 11 of the Oklahoma Statutes
9
10 shall receive an increase of five percent (5%) of the amount
10
11 prescribed in Section 49-143.7 of Title 11 of the Oklahoma Statutes.
