7 An Act relating to schools; amending 70 O.S. 2021,
7 Section 9-103, which relates to school transportation
8 vehicles; updating statutory language; removing
8 language requiring vehicles of certain capacity to
9 have certain words painted on them; providing an
9 effective date; and declaring an emergency.

12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

13 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 70 O.S. 2021, Section 9-103, is
13
14 amended to read as follows:
14
15 Section 9-103. The board of education of any school district
15
16 authorized to furnish transportation to school children may purchase
16
17 and maintain suitable vehicles for such use and/or may contract with
17
18 responsible individuals or another school district to furnish all or
18
19 part of said such transportation. All such contractors, however,
19
20 shall be subject to statutory provisions relating to the
20
21 transportation of school children. Every vehicle with a capacity of
21
22 ten passengers or more used in transporting school children shall
22
23 have painted in letters not less than eight (8) inches in height on

1 the front thereof the words, "SCHOOL BUS," and on the rear thereof

2 in letters of the same size, "SCHOOL BUS."

3 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective July 1, 2025.
3
4 SECTION 3. It being immediately necessary for the preservation
4
5 of the public peace, health, or safety, an emergency is hereby
5
6 declared to exist, by reason whereof this act shall take effect and
6
7 be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
