7 An Act relating to the State Fire Marshal Commission;
7 amending 74 O.S. 2021, Section 324.1, which relates
8 to the State Fire Marshal Commission; modifying
8 composition and terms of Commission members; and
9 providing an effective date.

12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

13 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 74 O.S. 2021, Section 324.1, is
13
14 amended to read as follows:
14
15 Section 324.1. There is hereby re-created the State Fire
15
16 Marshal Commission, which shall consist of seven (7) five (5)
16
17 members appointed, three by the Governor, one by the President Pro
17
18 Tempore of the Senate, and one by the Speaker of the House of
18
19 Representatives. The Governor shall appoint initially one member
19
20 who shall serve for a term of five (5) years, one member from a
20
21 statewide association of career and volunteer firefighters who shall
21
22 serve for a term of four (4) years, one member from a statewide
22
23 association of municipalities who shall serve for a term of three
23
24 (3) years, one member from a statewide association of Fire Chiefs,

1 both career and volunteer, who shall serve for a term of two (2)

2 years, one member who shall be a Fire Investigator who shall serve
2
3 for a term of one (1) year, one member representing a statewide
3
4 association of electrical workers who shall serve a term of one (1)
4
5 year, and one member representing a statewide organization of
5
6 exclusively professional firefighters who shall serve a term of two
6
7 (2) years. The members of the Commission shall thereafter be
7
8 appointed for a term of five (5) years and the appointments shall be
8
9 subject to Senate confirmation; provided the associations named
9
10 shall be represented by at least one member. On the effective date
10
11 of this act, the members of the Commission shall be appointed to
11
12 staggered terms and thereafter the members of the Commission shall
12
13 be appointed for terms of five (5) years. All members of the
13
14 Commission shall serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
14
15 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2026.
