7 An Act relating to the practice of podiatry; amending
7 59 O.S. 2021, Section 145.1, which relates to
8 continuing education requirement; modifying certain
8 license renewal requirements; updating statutory
9 language; broadening allowed continuing education;
9 providing certain exception; and providing an
10 effective date.

13 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

14 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 59 O.S. 2021, Section 145.1, is
14
15 amended to read as follows:
15
16 Section 145.1. A. Sixty (60) hours of continuing education
16
17 shall be required for renewal of an individual license to practice
17
18 podiatric medicine in this state. This must be obtained in the two-
18
19 year period immediately preceding the two-year period for which the
19
20 license is to be issued license renewal deadline. Such continuing
20
21 education shall include not less than two (2) hours of education in
21
22 pain management or two (2) hours of education in opioid use or
22
23 addiction, unless the licensee has demonstrated to the satisfaction
23
24 of the Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners that the licensee does

1 not currently hold a valid federal Drug Enforcement Administration

2 registration number. The continuing education required by this
2
3 section shall be any of the following:

4 1. Education presented by an organization approved by the
4
5 Council on Continuing Education of the American Podiatric Medical
5
6 Association Education;
6
7 2. A national, state or county podiatric medical association
7
8 meeting approved by the Board;
8
9 3. Hospital-sponsored scientific programs approved by the
9
10 Board; or
10
11 4. Six Meetings and hearings of the Board; provided, that not
11
12 more than six (6) hours of continuing education credit may be
12
13 obtained by attending such meetings and hearings of the Board; or
13
14 5. Education on medical marijuana approved by the Board.
14
15 At least thirty (30) hours of the required sixty (60) hours must be
15
16 obtained in this state, except that a podiatrist licensed in this
16
17 state who currently only practices outside of this state may
17
18 substitute hours of continuing education from the state or states in
18
19 which he or she practices.

20 B. Any practitioner not so satisfying the Board of the
20
21 fulfillment of the continuing education requirements required by
21
22 subsection A of this section shall cease to be entitled to have such
22
23 license renewed.

1 C. Any practitioner fully retired from the practice of

2 podiatric medicine shall be exempt from compliance with the
2
3 requirements imposed by subsection A of this section. However, upon
3
4 resuming the practice of podiatric medicine, the individual shall
4
5 fulfill such requirements which have accrued from October 1, 1979,
5
6 to the time of resumption of practice.

7 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2026.
