7   An Act relating to counties; amending 19 O.S. 2021,

7   Section 8.2, which relates to the authority to adopt

8   or amend county home rule charter; providing for

8   increasing population threshold for adopting or

9   amending county home rule charter; updating statutory

9   language; and providing an effective date.

12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

13  SECTION 1.      AMENDATORY  19 O.S. 2021, Section 8.2, is

13

14 amended to read as follows:
14

15  Section 8.2. Any county in this state with a population of less

15

16 than five hundred fifty thousand (550,000) eight hundred twenty-five
16

17 thousand (825,000), according to the latest Federal Decennial
17

18 Census, which contains a metropolitan area municipality with a
18

19 population of two hundred fifty thousand (250,000) five hundred
19

20 thousand (500,000) or more, according to the latest Federal
20

21 Decennial Census, may adopt or amend a County Home Rule Charter for
21

22 county government which specifies those powers appropriate for said
22

23 such government and which are not inconsistent with the Oklahoma
23

24 Constitution and laws of this state.

1   SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2026.
