7   An Act relating to firearms; making certain act

7   unlawful; creating misdemeanor and felony offenses;

8   providing penalties for certain offenses; providing

8   for codification; and providing an effective date.

11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

12  SECTION 1.     NEW LAW  A new section of law to be codified

12

13 in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 1273.1 of Title 21, unless there
13

14 is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:
14

15  A. It shall be unlawful for a person to store or leave a

15

16 firearm in a manner which allows a minor to have unsupervised access
16

17 to the firearm. A firearm that is not in use must be secured in a
17

18 locked container or by a device or mechanism, other than the firearm
18

19 safety, designed to render the firearm inaccessible or temporarily
19

20 inoperable.

21  B. A person who violates the provisions of subsection A of this

21

22 section shall, upon conviction, be guilty of a misdemeanor,
22

23 punishable by imprisonment in the county jail for a term not
23

1 exceeding one (1) year, by a fine not to exceed Five Hundred Dollars
1

2 ($500.00), or by both such imprisonment and fine.

3   C. A person who commits a violation of the provisions of

3

4 subsection A of this section which results in a minor accessing a
4

5 firearm and that results in bodily injury, great bodily injury, or
5

6 death to the minor or another person, shall, upon conviction, be
6

7 guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment in the custody of the
7

8 Department of Corrections for a term not less than two (2) years nor
8

9 more than twenty (20) years, by a fine not to exceed Five Thousand
9

10 Dollars ($5,000.00), or by both such imprisonment and fine.

11  SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2025.
