7   An Act relating to notaries public; amending 49 O.S.

7   2021, Section 6.1, which relates to provision of

8   legal advice; modifying allowable punishment;

8   updating statutory references; and providing an

9   effective date.

1 2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

13  SECTION 1.      AMENDATORY   49 O.S. 2021, Section 6.1, is

13

1 4 amended to read as follows:

14

15  Section 6.1. Any individual convicted of violating subsection B

15

1 6 of Section 6 of Title 49 of the Oklahoma Statutes this title shall

16

1 7 be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be subject to a fine not to

17

1 8 exceed One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), imprisonment in the county

18

1 9 jail for up to one (1) year, or both such fine and imprisonment.

19

2 0 Upon receipt of a final judgment against a notary public for a

20

2 1 violation of subsection B of Section 6 of Title 49 of the Oklahoma

21

2 2 Statutes this title from a district court of this state or its

22

2 3 equivalent from a foreign jurisdiction, the Secretary of State shall

23

1 revoke the appointment of the notary for a period of eight (8)

1

2 years.

3   SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2026.
