7 An Act relating to the practices of speech-language
7 pathology and audiology; amending 59 O.S. 2021,
8 Section 1607, as amended by Section 1, Chapter 26,
8 O.S.L. 2024 (59 O.S. Supp. 2024, Section 1607), which
9 relates to the Board of Examiners for Speech-Language
9 Pathology and Audiology; removing certain limitation
10 on appointees; permitting the Governor to consider
10 certain recommendations; and providing an effective
11 date.

14 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

15 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 59 O.S. 2021, Section 1607, as
15
16 amended by Section 1, Chapter 26, O.S.L. 2024 (59 O.S. Supp. 2024,
16
17 Section 1607), is amended to read as follows:

18 Section 1607. A. There is hereby re-created, to continue until
18
19 July 1, 2027, in accordance with the provisions of the Oklahoma
19
20 Sunset Law, the Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and
20
21 Audiology whose duty it is to administer the provisions of the
21
22 Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Licensing Act. The members
22
23 of the Board shall be residents of this state and shall be appointed
23
24 by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. The

1 Board shall be composed of five (5) members consisting of three
1
2 licensed speech-language pathologists or audiologists, provided that
2
3 at least one of the three shall be a licensed speech-language
3
4 pathologist and at least one, a licensed audiologist; one
4
5 otolaryngologist who is certified by the American Board of
5
6 Otolaryngology and one lay member.

7 B. The members of the original Board shall serve the following
7
8 terms: one member for one (1) year, two members for two (2) years,
8
9 and two members for three (3) years. Thereafter, at the expiration
9
10 of the term, or termination of the member's service for any reason,
10
11 the Governor shall appoint each successor for a term of three (3)
11
12 years, or for the remainder of an unexpired term. The successor for
12
13 any of the three speech-language pathologists or audiologists will
13
14 be selected from a list of five licensed speech-language
14
15 pathologists or audiologists, furnished by the Oklahoma Speech-
15
16 Language-Hearing Association In selecting appointees, the Governor
16
17 may consider recommendations from a statewide organization
17
18 representing speech-language pathologists or audiologists, a state
18
19 chapter of a national organization representing speech-language
19
20 pathologists or audiologists, or other groups or individuals in this
20
21 state. The re-creation of the Board shall not affect the staggered
21
22 terms of office for Board members established with the original
22
23 Board.

1 C. Before entering upon the duties of the member's office, each
1
2 member of the Board shall take the constitutional oath of office and
2
3 file it with the Secretary of State.
3
4 D. Board members may be reappointed to serve one additional
4
5 three-year term. Three (3) years after the termination of a
5
6 previous appointment to the Board, a member may be reappointed for
6
7 one additional three-year term.
7
8 E. Board members shall be reimbursed for travel expenses
8
9 incurred in the performance of their duties as provided in the State
9
10 Travel Reimbursement Act.

11 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2025.
