7   An Act relating to police dogs; requiring certain law

    enforcement agencies to equip vehicles used in canine

8   law enforcement programs with a heat alarm system

    that activates under certain circumstances; providing

9   what the system must do when activated; providing for

    codification; and providing an effective date.

    BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

    SECTION 1.      NEW LAW  A new section of law to be codified

14

    in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 34-110 of Title 11, unless there

15

    is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:

16

    A. As used in this section, "law enforcement agency" shall mean

17

    the police department of any municipality.

    B. 1. A law enforcement agency shall equip each vehicle used

19

    in a canine law enforcement program with a heat alarm system that is

20

    activated when the vehicle stops running or the temperature in the

21

    vehicle's interior exceeds eighty-five degrees (85�) Fahrenheit.

    2. The system, when activated, must:

23

    a. activate an audible alarm,

1   b. automatically lower the vehicle's rear windows, and

2   c. notify the canine law enforcement officer of the

3               dangerous situation.

4   SECTION 2.      NEW LAW  A new section of law to be codified

5 in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 566 of Title 19, unless there is

6 created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:

7   A. As used in this section, "law enforcement agency" shall mean

8 the police department of any county sheriff's department.

9   B. 1. A law enforcement agency shall equip each vehicle used

10 in a canine law enforcement program with a heat alarm system that is

11 activated when the vehicle stops running or the temperature in the

12 vehicle's interior exceeds eighty-five degrees (85�) Fahrenheit.

13  2. The system, when activated, must:

14  a. activate an audible alarm,

15  b. automatically lower the vehicle's rear windows, and

16  c. notify the canine law enforcement officer of the

17              dangerous situation.

18  SECTION 3.      NEW LAW  A new section of law to be codified

19 in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 9301 of Title 74, unless there

20 is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:

21  A. As used in this section, "law enforcement agency" shall mean

22 any police department with statewide jurisdiction as well as any

23 university or college campus police.

1   B. 1. A law enforcement agency shall equip each vehicle used

2 in a canine law enforcement program with a heat alarm system that is

3 activated when the vehicle stops running or the temperature in the

4 vehicle's interior exceeds eighty-five degrees (85�) Fahrenheit.

5   2. The system, when activated, must:

6   a. activate an audible alarm,

7   b. automatically lower the vehicle's rear windows, and

8   c. notify the canine law enforcement officer of the

9   dangerous situation.

10  SECTION 4. This act shall become effective November 1, 2026.
