7 An Act relating to initiative and referendum;
amending 34 O.S. 2021, Section 25, which relates to
8 special elections; modifying powers of Governor with
respect to special election dates; and providing an
9 effective date.

13 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
14 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 34 O.S. 2021, Section 25, is
15 amended to read as follows:
16 Section 25. Whenever any measure shall be initiated by the
17 people in the manner provided by law, or whenever the referendum
18 shall be demanded against any measure passed by the Legislature,
19 same shall be submitted to the people for their approval or
20 rejection at the next regular general election; provided, the
21 Governor shall have power, in his discretion, to call a special
22 election to vote upon such questions, or to designate the mandatory
23 primary election as a special election for such purpose the official
24 ballot title and measure is transmitted from the Secretary of State

1 to the State Election Board not fewer than seventy (70) days from
2 the date of the next general election pursuant to Section 12-116 of
3 Title 26 of the Oklahoma Statutes.
4 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2025.
