6                               AS INTRODUCED

7   An Act relating to agriculture; amending 2 O.S. 2021,

    Sections 14-2 and 14-3, which relates to weights and

8   measures; removing the requirement to send references

    standards to the National Institute of Standards and

9   Technology (NIST); providing that standards may be

    sent to a qualified laboratory; removing the

10  requirement to have weights and standards certified

    by the National Institute of Standards and Technology

11  (NIST); providing that a qualified laboratory may

    certify weights and standards; and providing an

12  effective date.

15 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

16  SECTION 1.      AMENDATORY  2 O.S. 2021, Section 14-2, is

17 amended to read as follows:

18  Section 14-2. The Director of the Bureau of Standards shall

19 have charge of the various standards of weights, measures, and

20 testing devices received by this state from the United States

21 pursuant to Resolutions of Congress approved June 14, 1836, and July

22 27, 1866, and any future standards which may be received from the

23 United States. The Director shall have charge of the various state

24 or office standards purchased by this state for the Bureau.

1   The Director shall have charge and control of the standard

2 methods of weighing, measuring, and testing in this state. The

3 Director shall maintain the standards in good order and shall submit

4 a set of standards called the reference standards to the National

5 Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) a qualified laboratory

6 for certification.

7   SECTION 2.        AMENDATORY  2 O.S. 2021, Section 14-3, is

8 amended to read as follows:

9   Section 14-3. The weights, measures, and testing devices

10 received from the United States pursuant to Joint Resolutions of

11 Congress approved June 14, 1836, and July 27, 1866, now in the care

12 and custody of the State Bureau of Standards, and the weights and

13 measures in conformity with the Resolutions, when certified by the

14 National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) a qualified

15 laboratory, shall be the state standards of weights and measures.

16 Copies of the state standards of weights and measures and other

17 weights, measures, and apparatus shall be supplied by this state to

18 implement the provisions of this article.

19  SECTION 3. This act shall become effective November 1, 2025.
