7   An Act relating to school transportation; amending 70

    O.S. 2021, Section 9-103, which relates to the

8   purchase or contract for use of vehicles; requiring

    certain new vehicles have seat belts; providing an

9   effective date; and declaring an emergency.

12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

13  SECTION 1.      AMENDATORY  70 O.S. 2021, Section 9-103, is

14 amended to read as follows:

15  Section 9-103. The board of education of any school district

16 authorized to furnish transportation to school children may purchase

17 and maintain suitable vehicles for such use and/or may contract with

18 responsible individuals or another school district to furnish all or

19 part of said transportation. All such contractors, however, shall

20 be subject to statutory provisions relating to the transportation of

21 school children. Every vehicle with a capacity of ten passengers or

22 more used in transporting school children shall have painted in

23 letters not less than eight (8) inches in height on the front

24 thereof the words, "SCHOOL BUS," and on the rear thereof in letters

1 of the same size, "SCHOOL BUS." Every vehicle with a capacity of

2 ten (10) passengers or more used in transporting school children

3 purchased, or contracted for use, on or after the effective date of

4 this act, shall have seat belts for every passenger.

5   SECTION 2. This act shall become effective July 1, 2025.

6   SECTION 3. It being immediately necessary for the preservation

7 of the public peace, health or safety, an emergency is hereby

8 declared to exist, by reason whereof this act shall take effect and

9 be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
