Raises the minimum fee for temporary interpreters

Raises the minimum fee for temporary interpreters; requires that town and village courts share in the compensation of such temporary interpreters.

VETO MESSAGE - No. 110 TO THE SENATE: I am returning herewith, without my approval, the following bill: Senate Bill Number 916, entitled: "AN ACT to amend the judiciary law, in relation to requiring town and village courts compensate temporary interpreters for deaf or hard of hearing persons" NOT APPROVED This bill would increase the reimbursement counties must provide town and village courts for temporary court interpreter fees from $25 per day to $110, shifting the cost of providing services from one unit of local government to the other. Issues regarding cost sharing among local governments should be addressed in the State Budget process where aid to localities can be considered. Therefore, I am constrained to veto this legislation.
