Directs the commissioner of education to conduct a survey of recess held in public and charter schools serving students in kindergarten through grade six and to provide any information collected to the governor and the legislature.

VETO MESSAGE - No. 163 TO THE SENATE: I am returning herewith, without my approval, the following bill: Senate Bill Number 8377-A, entitled: "AN ACT in relation to directing the commissioner of education to conduct a survey of recess held in schools serving students in kindergarten through grade six" NOT APPROVED This bill directs the commissioner of education to survey recess prac- tices at public and charter schools serving grades K-6. As with numerous other bills I have vetoed that require state agencies to undertake studies, this legislation would create new administrative burdens and impose unbudgeted costs. The state education department would be tasked with developing this survey and local school districts would need to dedicate personnel time and effort to complete it.
