VETO MESSAGE - No. 80 TO THE SENATE: I am returning herewith, without my approval, the following bill: Senate Bill Number 1194-B, entitled: "AN ACT to amend the public service law, in relation to requiring gas and electric corporations to provide forty-five days' notice to customers whenever there is a service rate or charge increase" NOT APPROVED This bill would direct the Public Service Commission to require all gas and electric utilities to provide at least forty-five days' written notice to each customer when there is a service rate or charge increase. While I agree with the need to provide further transparency for rate- payers, this bill would likely result in inaccurate estimated rates and frustrate the intent of the law. Additionally, any increased costs to implement this bill, including updating billing systems, would ultimate- ly be passed on to ratepayers, which is unacceptable...
