VETO MESSAGE - No. 119 TO THE ASSEMBLY: I am returning herewith, without my approval, the following bill: Assembly Bill Number 744, entitled: "AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to collecting data regarding alternative living arrangements for children who are at a substantial risk of maltreatment" NOT APPROVED This bill would require the Office of Children and Family Services to collect data and report on the use of alternative living arrangements for children who have contact with the child welfare system. The stated purpose of the bill is to address concerns that parents may feel coerced to utilize such arrangements to avoid an adverse child protective inter- vention. I support increasing transparency into the use of alternate living arrangements.
