VETO MESSAGE - No. 58 TO THE ASSEMBLY: I am returning herewith, without my approval, the following bill: Assembly Bill Number 1914, entitled: "AN ACT to amend the arts and cultural affairs law, in relation to renaming agency building one, agency building two, agency building three and agency building four, located at the empire state plaza" NOT APPROVED The legislation would provide a process for renaming Agency Buildings 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza after major rivers in New York State. The renaming process would take place through the Empire State Art Commission, which has not met in several years. While I support the intent of the bill, I believe that the State should take a different approach and welcome community engagement in the renaming process by expanding the scope of names and without using an inactive commission.
