Prohibits a court from denying class certification for purposes of class action lawsuits solely because the action involves governmental operations.

VETO MESSAGE - No. 57 TO THE ASSEMBLY: I am returning herewith, without my approval, the following bill: Assembly Bill Number 1550, entitled: "AN ACT to amend the civil practice law and rules, in relation to certification of class actions in cases involving governmental operations" NOT APPROVED This bill would amend the Civil Practice Law and Rules to prevent the courts from denying class action certifications solely based on the grounds that a case involves governmental operations. I vetoed this bill in each of the last two years. Courts have the discretion to address the issues contemplated by this legislation.
