HOUSE BILL 95 57th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - second session, 2026 INTRODUCED BY Dayan Hochman-Vigil AN ACT RELATING TO COURTS; CREATING AN ADDITIONAL JUDGESHIP IN THE SECOND JUDICIAL DISTRICT; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO: SECTION 1. Section 34-6-5 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1968, Chapter 69, Section 8, as amended) is amended to read: "34-6-5. JUDGES--SECOND JUDICIAL DISTRICT.--There shall be [thirty] thirty-one district judges in the second judicial district." SECTION 2. APPROPRIATION.--Four hundred fifty-one thousand four hundred dollars ($451,400) is appropriated from the general fund to the administrative office of the courts for expenditure in fiscal year 2027 to pay the costs associated with a new judgeship in the second judicial district, including salaries and benefits for the judge and staff, furniture, equipment and supplies. Any unexpended balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2027 shall revert to the general fund. - 2 -
