An Act allowing the administration of antiseizure medication on school busses, the official text

	Section 54B of chapter 71 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the fifth paragraph the following paragraph:—
	Notwithstanding any general or special law or regulation to the contrary, a school district shall allow a parent or legal guardian of any child with epilepsy or other seizure inducing illness to expressly authorize the school department and school bus drivers or bus monitors to administer prescription anti-seizure medication to his or her child in the case of an emergency. Upon receipt of a letter or prescription from the primary care physician of said child notifying the school of the epilepsy or other illness and the need to administer anti-seizure medication in an emergency, the school shall promptly notify the school bus service provider of the illness of said child and provide a copy of the letter or prescription from said primary care physician. The school district shall then ensure a proper level of informational and practical training is made available to such school bus drivers or bus monitors as to the signs and symptoms of a seizure emergency and the administration of prescribed anti-seizure medications.
