  SENATE ENROLLED ACT No. 524

   AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning local government.

   Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

   SECTION 1. IC 36-4-9-11, AS AMENDED BY P.L.119-2012,
SECTION 190, IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS
[EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2025]: Sec. 11. (a) In a second class city, the
corporation counsel is the head of the department of law. The
corporation counsel's first deputy is the city attorney, and the
corporation counsel's second deputy is the assistant city attorney.

   (b) In a third class city, the city attorney is the head of the
department of law.

   (c) To be eligible to be appointed as the head of the department of
law, a person must meet the following requirements:

      (1) Be admitted to the practice of law in Indiana.
      (2) Except as provided in subdivision (3), be a an Indiana
      resident of the county in which the city is located or a contiguous
      county.
      (3) For a third class city located in a county having a population
      of less than seven thousand (7,000), be a resident of Indiana.
