Senate File 601 - Introduced SENATE FILE 601 BY COMMITTEE ON LOCAL GOVERNMENT (SUCCESSOR TO SSB 1115) A BILL FOR An Act relating to timelines for online information 1 availability concerning the discontinuance of city 2 utilities. 3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: 4 TLSB 2373SV (3) 91 sb/js S.F. 601 Section 1. Section 388.2A, subsection 2, paragraph g, 1 subparagraph (1), Code 2025, is amended to read as follows: 2 (1) The governing body shall make available on its internet 3 site, at least sixty thirty days prior to submitting a proposal 4 for election pursuant to section 388.2 , a copy of each item 5 listed in paragraphs “a” through “f” of this subsection . 6 EXPLANATION 7 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 8 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 9 This bill relates to timelines for online information 10 availability concerning the discontinuance of city utilities. 11 Under current law, a proposal to discontinue a city utility 12 and dispose of such utility by sale, whether upon the city 13 council’s motion or upon the receipt of a valid petition, 14 is subject to the approval of the voters of the city. The 15 city must make the proposal available at least 60 days before 16 submitting a proposal for the election. Under the bill, the 17 approval requirement is changed to require the city to make 18 the proposal available at least 30 days before submitting a 19 proposal for the election. 20 -1- LSB 2373SV (3) 91 sb/js 1/ 1
