Section 20.3, subsection 11, Code 2025, is 1 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 2 NEW PARAGRAPH . g. A correctional officer employed by the 3 Iowa department of corrections. 4 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to collective 5 bargaining procedures pursuant to chapter 20 initiated on or 6 after the effective date of this Act. 7 EXPLANATION 8 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 9 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 10 This bill designates correctional officers employed by the 11 Iowa department of corrections as public safety employees 12 for the purposes of Code chapter 20, the public employment 13 relations Act. Code chapters 20 and 400 include collective 14 bargaining procedures specifically applicable to public safety 15 employees that are not applicable to other public employees, 16 including procedures relating to the scope of collective 17 bargaining negotiations, arbitration procedures, and certain 18 matters relating to city civil service employment. 19 The bill applies to collective bargaining procedures 20 pursuant to Code chapter 20 initiated on or after the effective 21 date of the bill. 22 -1- LSB 2035YH (2) 91 je/js 1/ 1
