SCHOOL CALENDAR FOR 2025-2026 SCHOOL 1 YEAR. Notwithstanding the requirement in section 279.10, 2 subsection 1, that the school calendar for school districts and 3 accredited nonpublic schools shall begin no sooner than August 4 23, during the school year beginning July 1, 2025, and ending 5 June 30, 2026, the school calendar for school districts and 6 accredited nonpublic schools shall begin no sooner than August 7 20. 8 EXPLANATION 9 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 10 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 11 This bill modifies the earliest possible start date of the 12 school calendar for school districts and accredited nonpublic 13 schools during the upcoming school year. Current law provides 14 that the school calendar for school districts and accredited 15 nonpublic schools shall begin no sooner than August 23. The 16 bill modifies this provision, for purposes of the school year 17 beginning July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2026, to provide 18 that the school calendar shall instead begin no sooner than 19 August 20. 20 -1- LSB 1579YH (2) 91 jda/jh 1/ 1
