House File 434 - Introduced HOUSE FILE 434 BY OLSON A BILL FOR An Act relating to taking otters on one’s own property. 1 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: 2 TLSB 2175YH (2) 91 sb/js H.F. 434 Section 1. Section 481A.87, Code 2025, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 5. An owner of property may at any 3 time take an otter on the owner’s property, subject to the 4 prohibitions provided in sections 481A.91 and 481A.92. 5 EXPLANATION 6 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 7 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 8 This bill relates to taking otters on one’s own property. 9 The bill allows a property owner to take an otter on the 10 owner’s property at any time subject to certain limitations. 11 The bill prohibits a property owner from using a shotgun or 12 spear to kill an otter and provides limitations on methods of 13 trapping an otter. 14 -1- LSB 2175YH (2) 91 sb/js 1/ 1
