9   AN ACT TO ALLOW VETERINARY TECHNICIANS, VETERINARY

10  TECHNOLOGISTS, AND VETERINARY TECHNICIAN SPECIALISTS

11  TO GO TO A LOCATION OTHER THAN THE LOCATION OF THE

12  SUPERVISING VETERINARIAN TO PROVIDE SERVICES BASED ON

13  AN EMERGENCY CALL; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

17                       TO ALLOW VETERINARY TECHNICIANS,

18                       VETERINARY TECHNOLOGISTS, AND VETERINARY

19                       TECHNICIAN SPECIALISTS TO GO TO A

20                       LOCATION OTHER THAN THE LOCATION OF THE

21                       SUPERVISING VETERINARIAN TO PROVIDE

22                       SERVICES BASED ON AN EMERGENCY CALL.

24 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

25

26  SECTION 1. Arkansas Code � 17-101-306(d)(3), concerning indirect

27 supervision of veterinary technicians and veterinary technologists by a

28 veterinarian, is amended to read as follows:

29  (3)(A) A veterinarian who utilizes indirect supervision of a

30 veterinary technician or veterinary technologist shall:

31                       (A)(i) Retain control of and authority over the care of

32 the animal; and

33                       (B)(ii) Review all recordkeeping and notes documented by

34 the veterinary technician or veterinary technologist on the charts regarding

35 the care of the animal.

36                       (B) When utilizing indirect supervision, a supervising

1 veterinarian may authorize a veterinary technician or veterinary technologist

2 to go to a location other than the location of the supervising veterinarian

3 to provide services based on an emergency call for an animal patient.

5   SECTION 2. Arkansas Code � 17-101-319(b)(3), concerning indirect

6 supervision of veterinary technician specialists by a veterinarian, is

7 amended to read as follows:

8   (3)(A) A veterinarian who utilizes indirect supervision of a

9 veterinary technician specialist shall:

10                  (A)(i) Retain control of and authority over the care of

11 the animal patient; and

12                  (B)(ii) Review all record keeping and notes documented by

13 the veterinary technician specialist on the charts regarding the care of the

14 animal patient.

15                  (B) When utilizing indirect supervision, a supervising

16 veterinarian may authorize a veterinary technician specialist to go to a

17 location other than the location of the supervising veterinarian to provide

18 services based on an emergency call for an animal patient.
