10  ACT; TO MODIFY THE REQUIREMENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL

11  DEVELOPMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS RELATED TO SUDDEN

12  CARDIAC ARREST; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

17                       PREVENTION ACT; AND TO MODIFY THE

18                       REQUIREMENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL

19                       DEVELOPMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS RELATED

20                       TO SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST.

22 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

24  SECTION 1. Arkansas Code � 6-18-708(b), concerning health and safety

25 in public schools and requirements for professional development in schools,

26 is amended to read as follows:

27  (b)(1) Every three (3) years as part of the requirements for

28 professional development, a person employed by a school district as an

29 athletics coach, licensed teacher coach, registered volunteer, or competitive

30 or noncompetitive spirit coach shall complete training on the events and

31 conditions identified in subsection (a) of this section.

32  (2) In addition to the training under subdivision (b)(1) of this

33 section, a person employed by a school district as an athletics coach,

34 licensed teacher coach, registered volunteer, or competitive or

35 noncompetitive spirit coach shall maintain a Basic Life Support certification

36 in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation in

1 accordance with best practices of the American Red Cross or the American

2 Heart Association, or both.

3   (3) The training under this section may include a component on

4 best practices for a coach to educate parents of students involved in

5 athletics on sports safety.
